Deep beneath the sparkling waves, Ruby the rainbow fish swam through the coral reef. Her shimmering scales caught the sunlight and glittered like tiny jewels. All the other fish watched her glide past. “Come play with us!” called a little blue fish named Finn. Ruby flipped her tail proudly. “I am too special to play ordinary games,” she said. One by one, the other fish swam away. Soon the reef felt very quiet. Ruby looked around and realized she was completely alone. Her heart sank like a pebble dropping through the water.

Ruby swam to the wise old octopus who lived in a sandy cave. “Nobody wants to be my friend,” Ruby whispered sadly. The octopus smiled gently. “What makes you happy, Ruby?” Ruby thought carefully. “My beautiful scales make me happy.” “And what if sharing them could make others happy too?” the octopus asked. Ruby felt scared. Share her precious scales? But she remembered how lonely the quiet reef had felt. Slowly, she found Finn and offered him one glimmering scale. His eyes grew wide with joy. “Really? For me?” Finn whispered, and Ruby smiled.

Word spread quickly through the reef. Ruby gave a sparkling scale to every fish who wanted one. With each scale she shared, something wonderful happened. The other fish swam closer, laughing and twirling beside her. “Thank you, Ruby!” they cheered. Ruby noticed she had fewer shimmering scales now, but she had never felt so warm inside. That evening, Ruby and Finn played hide-and-seek among the swaying seaweed. “I learned something today,” Ruby said softly. “Sharing makes everything more beautiful.” Finn nodded happily. Together, the reef sparkled brighter than it ever had before.
